The Engwe Y10 has recently come out and I have to say, I was very excited that Engwe sent it to me to review. All opinions are my own as always.
What is the first thing you notice about the Y10? The frame looks very similar to that of the ever popular Ninebot Max G30 that I reviewed a long time ago.
So let’s review the Y10 in detail.
-Portability
The Y10 only weighs 17kg! This is what I love about this scooter. You don’t have that worry of carrying it up a few stairs, lifting it in the back of your car. It folds within seconds. The total handlebar height is 120cm and the length of the scooter is 118cm. So it will suit a rider from around 5ft to almost 6ft tall. Storing the scooter is no problem and is suitable for apartment owners.
Assembling the scooter is very straightforward. Carefully take it out of the box and screw in the 6 screws in firmly. I would recommend using a higher quality tool for this and not the one supplied. Don’t forget to pump the tyres to 45psi and to full charge it before your first ride.
-Design
This frame is one of the most sturdy, clean welded frame designs. From the moment you step on the scooter you feel how solid it is. The mudguards product you from wet riding plus the deck space is very easy to wipe down. Kickstand on it though I wish was a bit more sturdy, but it’s nothing really to worry about because the scooter is not heavy.
The stems on scooters are sometimes badly designed BUT not on this. The folding mechanism is built very well and feels solid. You would not have to worry about creaking or wobbling at all. I did ride the scooter on very bumpy roads and everything was still solid.
The display has 3 modes, eco, standard and sport mode that’s very user friendly.
It can take 5-6hrs to fully charge.
-Overall Performance
With a 350w motor pushing out 500w peak, this scooter can handle hills no problem. The max load on this scooter is 150kg so do keep that in mind.
Torque is ok and this is a kick start scooter so after about 3km speed the acceleration kicks in. Depending what country you are in, the speeds will vary from 25km/h to 32km/h.
It has a max range of up to 65kms and as always this depends on weight, speed, wind, temperature and hills.
-Ride Comfort
The deck space is huge. So for longer distances it’s very comfortable. But keep in mind that this scooter has no suspension. If you have bad roads on your area, I would avoid the scooter in that case but if you have decent roads, you would find it very comfortable. It has 10 inch by 3 inch fat tyres that have brilliant side thread giving you plenty of grip on the road. The turning radius on the scooter is also very good.
-Safety
Most important thing about electric scooters is safety. You have a front LED light but I would recommend an additional light. Rear LED light is low to the ground so definitely recommend another light attached to the rear of the helmet.
Just take a look at this
Scooter is IP54 rated so if you do get caught riding in the rain, dry off the scooter wheb you can.
The drum brake I like on this scooter and it’s very easy to adjust. You also get electronic braking.
One very nice feature is that the scooter has side indicators at the end of the handlebars. Very visible and easy to see. something I hope more scooters will start to have.
-Value
Now this is where the Y10 gets even more appealing. The price it’s at right now is crazy. I cannot think of another scooter that’s built like this and comes in at this price tag.
-Who is it for
If you are looking for an A-B commuter scooter that’s gives you range, decent speed and a sturdy build, then the Y10 will definitely be a scooter to consider.
